This weekend I managed to get our living room mantle decorated for Easter.
On Thursday I stopped at Hobby Lobby on the way home and grabbed the flowers, they were 45% off, the little lamb and two birds that were also 45% off. I ended up getting everything for under $15.00. I printed the Easter subway art off of Eighteen 25's blog for free and stuck it in a white frame I got at the Dollar Tree a couple years ago. The blue Mason jars are out of my collection for the wedding and insulators we already had here at the house. The little box was also a find from downstairs in one of my Dad's boxes from an auction. I got the idea for the Easter egg banner from Creations by Kara's blog. I ended up tying them together with the pink jute twine my Dad got me for Christmas.
There is a little story behind this set-up here. That is my Grandpa Spiker in that picture the day he came home from the nursing home. He grew up raising sheep on the farm and showed them in 4H. When I was 9 years old, the age you become a 4Her, he was the one that encouraged me to show lambs. Grandpa died in 2005 but he is still with me in my heart and whenever I see a lamb I think of him. As soon as I saw this little lamb at Hobby Lobby I knew I had to get it to put next to his picture. This year my cousin Maddy is also going to show lambs in 4H at our county fair and I cannot wait to help her with them and teach her everything I know.

Oh my gosh, everything is SO adorable! Love the egg banner!
ReplyDeleteHi Brittany,
ReplyDeleteYour mantel looks lovely. I love the combination of old and new decor (who can resist a blue mason jar?). Your fireplace is so nice - I just can't bring myself to paint ours. There's something about a real stone/brick fireplace that makes it feel cozy.
Sweet tribute to your Grandpa, too :)
